There is just something about the Wayne County Fair going on this week, that is simply special. It's not the biggest county fair, or the fanciest, but there is a great feeling about the fair that is incredible.
The people that run the fair are so nice, and the patrons that pack the grandstand for various shows, concerts, races, and pulls are having the time of their lives. The county comes together and supports each other wonderfully.
There is just a great feeling when you are there. I am always proud to emcee the shows there, an d see all the wonderful people Wayne County.

This picture made me happy. In the 1990's, Colin Raye, Sammy Kershaw, and Aaron Tippin were consistent hit makers in Country Music. I played every one of their songs on various radio station morning shows in the country. They all had a great run.
Well, this biz changes as all do, and there is the inevitable changing of the guard in music, and slowly they all came off the charts. But as they all sang together and separately at the Wayne County Fair this week, they took people back to a time not so long ago, that made a packed house happy. Their happiness made everyone happy.
Great to see old friends, still friends and making the music they did, together. Well done!

week #19
This picture is not what you may think.
This is NOT a huge Country, or Rock Concert at Blossom. This is a pic from last weekends Cleveland Orchestra Concert where the played the soundtrack to Star Wars:The Empire Strikes Back.
I go to Blossom for all kinds of shows, including emceeing the Country shows there, and this concert was as big as any crowd I have seen at Blossom this year. It was huge!
Fun thing to do, and very affordable. Keep the Orchestra in mind for next season. It's Blossom the was it was, and that in itself is worth the visit. A picnic, a show and a great time on the lawn.

Tons of listeners drive, or own a tractor. When I was at the Canfield far this past weekend with Windy, we walked through the tractor display. Very cool.
A tractor then and now are essentially the same - but different. It's a big, heavy engine on wheels with a seat and big wheels. In the 1930's and 40's like many of these were, they didn't have Am/FM Radios, AC, DVD, heat, incredibly comfy seats, and TV.
But they were and are beautiful! Such classics, always fun to look back and see how things were.

It:Chapter Two
This week, is a slow one as far as new movies are concerned, but It is going to be a huge hit. The second installment of this story will be big, and so will the amount of time you'll be at the theater, as this is almost three hours.
I liked the first part of this story a couple years ago, and I am hoping this is just as good.

It's not often we get to treat ourselves to a truly great meal that you, for the most part, you can't make at home.
We went to the amazing Mallorca in Cleveland over the weekend to have some paella and sangria. If you don't know, and I didn't till recently, paella is the picture above. It is saffron rice, with shrimp, scallops, sausage, peas, chicken, and a half lobster. It is simply incredible. And their sangria is the perfect compliment to their amazing and authentic Spanish food.
This place is a treat in every way. Downtown, easy to get in and out of, and very quaint. This is not a place for a bunch of high rollers. Great food, reasonably priced, considering you are dining in a multiple award winning restaurant.
The owner Laurie and her very friendly staff make this a great choice for a really fun and special night out. Treat yourself some time. We did!

I drive past this place in Peninsula a few times a week, and in total disclosure, I have never been inside. BUT, I love this sign.
I love old signs like this. This lit up sign in itself can take me back to an era around long before I was. You don't see these much anymore, and that's a shame. I pass this sometimes very early in the morning, and I look to see if it's turned on every time.
I like this sign about as much as I like one like this that simply says "Eat" once in a while. I know this sign is old, and probably takes a lot to keep it going, but I hope they keep it - forever!
(I need to go inside this place sometime)

Luke Combs!
What is going on with him is simply incredible. Every song he puts out seems to be bigger than the last.
This week we debuted his new single "Even Though I'm Leaving" and the text and phone lines lit up with emotional words. This song really resonates with everyone. Amazing how Luke Combs simply continues to record the best songs in Nashville right now.
Been a long while since we've seen a new star dominate in this way. Well done!

One major release this weekend
Don't Let Go
Another thriller this week, that is expected to give you a jolt or two. Very interesting how holiday weekends haven changed over the years.
At one time a huge time to release movies, now almost none. People and their habits have changed. September is shaping up as being a much better month of new movies, after the holiday weekend.
But some others flicks to check out

For the first time in a long time, I was lucky enough to go to the Cleveland Natural History Museum. I was there for wonderful dinner occasion, and it was sensational.
Cool place, and the food was great. Plus, how often do you get to eat dinner with a Tyrannosaurus Rex? And we got to see Balto! The REAL Balto, although stuffed, but the one of the most famous dogs called and calls Cleveland home.
As we walked around I was reminded how cool that entire place is. In fact, that entire area has been so revitalized it really needs to be seen.
That whole University Circle area is wonderful, and it's not far from Little Italy - Yum!
This fall head on up there. Lots to do. Fun!

I have always said that no one tells the truth about flossing their teeth when the dentist asks. You always say yes, they know you're lying, and they dig out the tarter and plaque.
Flossing also tastes like you're at dentist and no one likes that. If you're a dentist, or hygienist sorry, but no one wants to be there. It's not you, it's the act. Flossing stinks, it's no fun, and it's time consuming, so here's the next million dollar idea
Now, if I could floss my teeth with bacon I would, if it would hold together. But sadly it won't. Bacon flavored floss. I'm flossing every day, twice a day - and at the breakfast table when I'm eating a fat omelette!
Solves many problems. Flossing, the taste, the lying and better dental hygiene. Perfect!!

Tuesday was National Radio Day. I have been doing this for 38 years, and this seems like a good time to pull the curtain back on this profession a bit. Many people ask me what I call my job. I don't like DJ, or Disc Jockey. That is a very different and great skill set, that I don't have, that is very different than what I do.
There are other names, but Morning Personality, or Morning Show Host is better. But what I really am is a Storyteller. I hopefully tell one every time I open the mic. Some are not as compelling as others. Some things must be said. But in the content we do on Scott And Sarah to hopefully entertain, we tell stories. Putting a person (you) in a place (here) , at a time (now), for a good reason. Once I learned that as a young broadcaster, after a few years of not knowing that, things fell into place.
I learned this from a legendary morning guy named Dick Zipf (Ziff). When I was 23 doing mornings at WRMZ in Columbus, he was on our AM station WMNI. He taught me to story tell. And he also introduced me something I am equally and forever thankful for. That there are different and more colorful ways to say the ordinary. Using different and inventive phrases and words. And finding the angle that no one else will in everything you say on air. Those two things have served me well. And I am eternally thankful to him.
Years later one of my bosses, Nick Anthony, here at WQMX reminded me through our continued friendship, that storytelling is compelling, as he is a great story teller. And he also is a great example of using words to start a story or conversation and not end one. Constant and definite facts that are spoken at someone, is not inviting. Questions requested and answered with someone is, as the story can go on with an equal exchange of views. The only way to learn anything is to listen, and the most compelling conversations spawn from asking questions, and listening to the answer. Nick always reminds me of this in our talks. I am grateful again.
The Beautiful Windy laughs with me for always asking questions in our personal life. But each one asked and answered helps me tell a new story somewhere up the road.
More tomorrow as I want to mention some other great people from this wonderful business - Radio.

With National Radio Day this week, we have been chatting about the essence of the biz. I refer to what I do as storytelling, and it is. But few are born natural storytellers, and for those who are granted the gift of gab, there are always those who help you propel you to another level.
Again, when I was a young broadcaster in Columbus in the early and mid-eighties, I ran across some very important people in my career. Everything happens fast when your young, and as I look back there was a lot to absorb. I had a Program Director named Rob Ryan. He worked with me daily and prodded me to story tell more confidently, and to hold conversations with the listeners on the phone. He taught me to listen to their story first, respect it, and then meld it with mine. Phone skills for radio - gold! Priceless counseling.
And my great friend of 36 years in this biz, Vic Scott (aka Smokey Rivers now). He taught me that while story telling, its OK to have a definite take on a subject during a conversation. But to make sure to be quick to listen and slow to speak is a good thing. He also showed me how to make a strong point, but not to alienate those who may differ at that moment. That learning how to disagree is vital to telling a story sometimes. Great lesson. Great pro, great friend.
I am learning along the way the art of storytelling goes hand in hand with listening to others stories first to be the most effective. Tomorrow I will share a few more quick stories and thank others.

Angel Has Fallen
This series rolls on, for whatever reason. But here we go again. Our favorite Secret Service agent played by Girard Butler is again trying to protect the President! But this time, he's the one in trouble. Buy why? Guess we have go and see.
They can stop making these anytime now. This series is simply not good.
My Spy
This comedy seems to have a formula that will work with families if done well. A little kid hanging out with a Secret Agent. The opposite formula, it's been around for years and can still work if handled right.
This could go either way. Very fun, or very not.

I am someone that likes all kinds of music. Yes, I have made a living on Country Radio, but most of the people in my industry, we like a many different styles. Last week, I went to the Doobie Brothers concert at Blossom and I was reminded on one of my favorite songs of all time! China Grove - By the Doobies.
I call that song, and others like it a "Drive Around The Block Song." Meaning, if it comes on the radio and I am almost home, I drive around the block to hear it. It may have the greatest guitar riff ever, and I think its a great example of American Rock music. Powerful, to the point, driven, honest, and almost infectious.
I have other "Drive Around The Block Songs" too..
Startin' With Me - Jake Owen
Up Down - Morgan Wallen
After The Lovin' - Englebert Humperdink
Baker Street - Gerry Rafferty
Small Town USA - Justin Moore
Still Doin' Time - George Jones
And the list goes on and is probably too long to list.

Last week when the Browns played their first preseason game, my favorite moment was when Damon Sheehy-Guiseppi, a guy that walked on to the Browns camp uninvited ran a punt back for a TD. What a terrific underdog story. The entire Browns team ran after him and mobbed him with excitement. That shows me the team is on the right track. Football can be unique that way.
I saw, and believe still, that in life and business, you play for the guys next to you, and hopefully you are around people of the same ilk. If your skill set in life, and on the job is such that it elevates those around you, then you are in the right place, with the right people. I have been lucky in much of my career to be around such. And in my personal life off the job as well - now more than ever.
That doesn't mean you put yourself in the backseat, to the contrary. A job and life is a team sport, and if your gifts make others around you better, than everyone wins. It's just that simple. Those who choose to not reflect that many times end up isolated and in the long run, not as successful as they think they are. Life is a long journey, and it's better with team mates that like you, respect you and are glad you are around to raise them up, as they do you.

I've been around this radio stuff for a long time, worked in many places around the country and have been a part of a lot of good radio promotions. But I have to say, that the WQMX Send Me Backstage T-shirts are about the best I've ever seen.
We have been doing this a long time, and it seems to get better and better. It's great to see all the colors of all the years at all the concerts we do. And it's great too to see them all over social media.
You can wear it anytime. In fact, taking pics of you in your shirt and posting them here would be really fun.
Long live the WQMX Send Me Backstage T-shirt!

Just in case you have never gone to this place, here's some information so you may. Maria's Field of Hope in Avon is a fantastic place to see, visit, take pictures, and simply reflect.
Windy introduced me to the idea of going last year, as I had never heard of it. It's in an area that I know well, and one she doesn't. We made the trek together on a beautiful and special day and took pics, and just took it all in.
When you learn about it, and how it came to be, you are even more impressed. Make it a part of a trip there and incorporate with another venture. There is plenty of shopping nearby including Crocker Park, food too, and antiquing. You can't spend hours there, but one would be a very nice visit.

It's hard not to get caught up in what's going on with the Tribe right now. Erasing a 12 game defecit in he Major Leagues is pretty much unheard of, but they have done it.
I know the Browns are the flavor of the month, but they don't play fore about a month, and being more than fair, have not won anything yet. I understand fans are excited for the Browns, and should be. But the Tribe is a three straight time divisional winner, and on verge of a fourth. We will have our time to be all Brownie, but right now it's time to cheer on the Indians.
There seems to a a magic around the Tribe right now, and it's starting to look like they may be one of the real elite teams. Go to a game. It's not as expensive as you may think, and you'll be part of something special - and you can get tickets!
Go Tribe!

week 15

This is a good week, as I am proud to introduce you Stephanie Bunch. I will be endorsing her on WQMX, as I learned of her in my search to change my insurance on both my car, and my home. I looked around a lot as I, like you, and sick of paying a ton of money on it. No one likes buying, paying or shopping for insurance. And I am so glad I met Stephanie.
She is at John Karas Allstate Insurance in Tallmadge. And when I told her what I was looking for, she did EVERYTHING. She took care of the entire quote, switch and showed me a ton of ways to save money and have better coverage. I was so impressed I told a bunch of friends who also called her and made the switch.
It's nice to know there are people out there who are really good at their jobs, and take a ton of pride in it. That's her. Sometimes things seem too good to be true in business, it's good to know that sometimes things really can be that easy.

Windy and I were lucky enough to go to the Jake Owen Concert at the Medina County Fair last week, and man am I glad we did that! Blossom is great, and so are all of the amazing music venues we have around here. But I was reminded that sometimes a good 'ole county fair concert can be just as fun.
Jake Owen I think is a singer who can sing both ends of the spectrum with the same passion. Powerful ballads like Startin' With Me, and then the other end like, Down To the Honky Tonk. He can do it all. This show was incredible, and no one walked out of there disappointed. It was one of the better concerts I have seen anywhere in a long while.
So, with the Wayne County Fair in a couple weeks, don't forget the shows there. Scotty McCreery, and Randy Houser, plus the the Legends show with Colin Raye, Aaron Tippon and Sammy Kershaw.
Take in a GREAT County Fair show! Thanks Jake for the reminder!
#3
Went to the Enshrinement at the Pro Football Hall Of Fame last week, and I hope it's not my last time to do that. WOW! The changes at the Hall are amazing, and what is coming too is also incredible. We were also very impressed with the new Tom Benson Stadium. What a fantastic facility to have as well.
Of course we saw lots of cool things, and were there to experience the whole deal. But I think what really hit me, and what I took with me, is the anticipation of the future of the Hall and all of the terrific new things coming to the Hall Of Fame Village. I can't wait to go back soon, and see what else is new at the Hall.
Great things are coming. Go visit the Hall!

There are some new flicks out this weekend! Let's take a look!
Dora And The Lost City Of Gold
Dora The Explorer love action time is here. They have been promoting this movie in movie previews in theaters for many months, hoping for a large payday. And they might get it. The time is right for a new family flick to go to the top.
This will draw across the spectrum, as parents will want to take the kids, and see what this is all about. This has been treated a bit skeptically by some national critics, but this will be a hit.
The Kitchen
The cast in this flick that will tell a story we have not seen before. The wives of a bunch of mobsters continue business as usual after the husbands are sent to jail.
They turn out to be quite good at it too. I always look forward to flicks that are original in their premise, and this seems to be one.
Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark
The time is right in the movie world for a good old scary summertime flick, and here it comes front and center.
I feel this could be one of the big surprise hits of the summer

I would like to thank the amazing people at Habitat For Humanity of Summit County and their incredible Home-In-One Golf Outing. I have been the Honorary Chair for this outing for about 10 years, and it's an real honor for me.
I am a real believer in the mission that Habitat has, and the services they provide. This is something you should really take a few minutes and see how you can possibly benefit.
The home of this outing is the Hudson Country Club and they do a very nice job and make us all feel welcome.
See what Habitat can do for you! Proud to be their voice!

When I was a kid, the ice cream truck came around, and I generally got a Popsicle. Cheap, easy, and what my mom said I could get. The "Bomb Pop Kids" were rollin' high with their red, white and blue deliciousness, and I was stuck with the one flavor wooden stick.
Then there were the "Two Stick Kids." They got the ones with two sticks, and although they generally were a sticky, red mess with the summer sun roasting their two sticks of sugar like marshmallows over the campfire. And there I was with the single stick 'sicle and some childhood jealousy.
And last week, I had my first popsicle in about 30 years on a 90 degree day. Guess what? Single stick, cherry. And I was good with it, as much as things can change, some stay the same.

This week there is one major release, and sadly for some it is not an original yet again. We are clearly in the era of no new ideas, so I give you Shaw And Hobbs. Two late added characters to the Fast And Furious franchise. This stars The Rock and Jason Statham.
These two don't seem to care for each other, and now they bring their wise-cracking action movie vibe to the big screen this week. Yes, this will find an following, and it is an alternative to the animated, Disney, and Superhero choices out there now, it just would be great to see something original at some point.

I know that National Ice Cream Day was Sunday, but that's ridiculous. Ice cream gets one single day. What is better than ice cream? I don't, but I could eat ice cream every single day. There are a few kinds of ice cream too. Good, really good, great, fantastic, and amazing. I don't care what kind I am eating.
I am a cup and bowl guy though, and yes I am anti-cone. Traditional cones taste and look like asbestos, or insulation. Sugar cones, though better, are still a calorie waster. Then there are waffle cones, in a pinch where there is a much dreaded bowl shortage, will do, but still there is a decision, if I am going to eat the waffle cone, or get out a spoon and go to work right out of the tub.
I, for one don't need a bunch of mumbo jumbo on ice cream either. Just roll it up, and slap in the bowl. Small spoon too make it last longer. Perfect rolls are fine or SQUARE as you can see from the pic, that's the Idaho way. And BTW, do you really need a "sample?" Maybe if you're like.....9. But it's ice cream, order, pay and keep the line moving.....
Long live ice cream.

I have been going to Indians games for many, many years. I have been a 20 game season ticket holder for the past 3 years. I remember when going to a Tribe game was exactly that. Going to a ball game. Now it is so much more - and it's better.
Long gone are the days of 5,000 in old Municipal Stadium for Banner Day, or Grandstand Managers Day, with soggy hotdogs, a scoreboard that looked like Pong, and the dreaded troughs. When you go to Progressive Field now, it's a blast from the moment you walk in. The music, the food, the great smells, the sun, the shows, the well....everything. The Indians are a first class operation who give you a fun, family friendly experience from start to finish.
I mean, where else where else can you see live hot dogs starring in a hot local band?

When we walked on the moon in 1969, I was very young, but I do remember my parents making sure we all watched Neil and Buzz make world history. I am glad of that....
I remember wanting to be an astronaut too. And although my life went and continues to go in a different direction, I would have done what they did all those years ago. And if I had the chance, I would do it now. I get it, there are a few obstacles in my way, but the chance to walk on the moon, or sit on top of a Saturn V Rocket on Earth is something I would do in a heartbeat.
Windy and I saw Neils spacesuit from all those years ago this week on the 50th anniversary of the moon landing, and we both had to take a pic. And even though neither one of us will be suiting up soon and riding the Orion into space, it's nice to dream we would.
So Cool!

Another weekend of few releases, as there are plenty of HUGE movies to see right now, ass studios are waiting for them to blow over. But this is well timed. With all the animation, superhero and Disney stuff out right now, it seems right for a Quentin Tarantino flick to find an crowd. A behibnd the scenes Hollywood story set in 1969.
This stars Leo and Brad. Plus, Margot Robbie, Kurt Russell, and an ton of other very big stars. I am a huge fan of Tatantino flicks, and though they aren graphic and tough to watch at times, they are highly original.

Sometimes things happen that reminds us that there are good people in the world, and not everyone is out to take advantage of someone.
Windy and I were in Island Park, Idaho last week. It is about as out there as you can get. 4 hour drive at 80mph from Salt Lake City. There is not a lot there. We rented a cabin and drove to Yellowstone a few times, and on the day we were go back to SLC, we had a rental car whose rear right tire was about flat. 8am!
There are three things in Island Park near our cabin, a Phillips 66 gas station, a whole lot of high country, and a place called The Repair Shop next door to the gas station. I had no clue where the next ...anything was, and we had a long, remote, high speed drive ahead.
Enter Tayson at the Repair Shop. He knew our problem, and he fixed it right away. No wait, no fuss, and only $20 to get us going when it would have been easy to charge us $100. I am pretty handy, but now one is when it's that much of a road game.
We will never forget the kindness given to us that day from good people, from good country!

I love to find funny businesses and sometimes the diverse things one place can do. Years ago in my hometown of Berea, there was the Berea Laundromat and Deli. And this week when Windy and I were on vacation in Idaho, we found this gem in Lava Hot Springs, population 407. The Royal Hotel and Pizzeria.
Its about perfect. Delicious pizza, and then a place to lay down after! Now before you think this could not possibly be good, it was. VERY good. And it's been there for 105 years! In small towns you have to be many things to many people, and that is what this was! Place was packed and the pie was great!
Plus, we learned that a small squeeze of lemon on a pizza slice is delish! And it was. When in Lava Hot Springs, Idaho, do as they do!

Why is it that there are some things you just have to do? While out west on vacation, we saw a bevy of Sinclair Gas Stations. Windy and I were getting ready to take a tour of Salt Lake City, and I saw the station with it's iconic green Brontosaurus Dinosaur! (It's actually a Apatosaurus) She immediately got out her phone, smiled and rolled her eyes.
Yeah, I wanted a pic and I got one. I know it wasn't Mount Rushmore, or the Grand Canyon, or even The Bob's Big Boy. But it had to be done. And truth be told if there was a Big Boy handy, I would have done that too. We all seem to like taking pics at certain areas for unknown reasons. Like the new Cleveland signs, You see one, you take one, it's just as simple as that. And as you can see, I have one of those too.
And that's all well and fine, but it's no Sinclair Green Dinosaur....

Blog week #11
Over the weekend I was lucky enough to attend a party in Canfield and man was I glad about that. Windy had an aunt that was retiring and it was a really nice affair.
They hired this amazing company called Roxbury Pizza to make brick oven pizzas out of a mobile set up right there at the house. And It was incredible. Pizza in 90 seconds in a real brick oven that was as delicious as any I have ever had.
What a great idea, fresh pizza on location for a special occasion. These were really nice, dedicated pizza makers that helped make this party really fun. Windy and I and EVERYONE there loved this pie.
I think I are like 10 pieces. Delish!

Just to prove there is nothing that has not been invented, look at this!
OK, as in true Morning Show fashion, let's break it down. Chocolate = Good! Tabasco= Good Spicy= Good. So I'm assuming this is good.
Do you know any other strange combos?

Wednesday on the show, we asked you to post pics of your grill, and/or grilling and we got tons of them. They all were great, and we got some amazing grill ideas for the Holiday Weekend!
But my long time friend from Florida Ray sent me a pic of his grill, and I have to say as great as my grill is, Ray wins! Holy cow! In fairness, he does some big parties as a side hustle. And he's darn good at it.
So as most will be salivating over the food prepared on regular grills, some of us hard core grillers will be salivating over that amazing grill.

Had a fantastic time at Cedar Point this weekend. I hadn't been there in a few years, and I had a great time. Many changes, and new rides, Windy and I really a fun weekend as we stayed the night at the Breakers.
We rode tons of rides including a bunch of coasters. But one thing still has not changed over the years with me and the park. I can ride any roller coaster on the planet, but I don't like to ride the "buckets". You know, the thing on the string. I just can't get past the wire maybe snapping thing, and going over the towers thing.
I know, it's the most boring ride on earth, slowest too. I know logically it's probably the safest ride in world, but I'll stick to the Valraven -
For....Some...reason...

This week, I had the chance to play in a great gold outing at the wonderful Bunker Hill Golf Course in Medina. It was a fundraiser for a terrific agency in Medina and Lorain County called The LCADA Way. They are here to help those who are affected by drugs and addiction.
As I learned they are great people who do amazing work. And it was good to support them and our sister radio station WNWV The Wave as they were the radio sponsor.
Kudos to the very professional staff too at Bunker Hill who ran a fantastic outing, and had the course in tip-top shape.
We here at WQMX are proud to support charity golf tournaments, so let us know if you would like us to maybe be a part of your charity outing.

The past three years I have been a 20-game season ticket holder with the Indians. I have chosen the Monday and Wednesday package for various reasons, one being the abundance of Wednesday afternoon games.
I am not a Cubs fan at all in any way. But for decades at Wrigley with NO LIGHTS they played only day games there. Now with lights, the can do both. Be clear, I am not saying we should take the lights off Progressive Field, but I do love me some day baseball. I love the 1:10 start. I know, you'll say because I get up at 2:30 AM to do the show is one of the reasons, and you would be right. But the day games I've gone to this year and past years are the best.
Nice weather, sun, and an overall good feeling buzzes through the park that's different than a night game. Maybe it's a different person that can go to an afternoon game. Could be many are thrilled to not be at the office, and maybe the sun has something to do with it too. There's a different feel, and vibe that you can actually feel.
Love Live Day Ball! GO TRIBE!!

New Flicks This Week!
Annabelle Comes Home
More Annabelle. This is clearly the season for scary movies as there is no shortage of them out right now with more on the way.
Always great to get a jolt at the movies on a late summer night. We've been down this particular road before a few times before, but we seem to want more.
Yesterday
This is on my list as one of the most anticipated movies of the summer. What a great idea in theory. Seems no one alive knows who the Beatles are in this movie and our star sings and performs all of thier songs and gets worldwide acclaim doing it with the masses thinking they are his songs.
This has the chance to be really, really good with a solid script and done by skilled film makers.

This is getting a bit old. I am not one to complain about much of anything, as it solves nothing, and I am a results guy. But this rain is really getting a bit old.
I lived through a 2 and half year drought in Florida when I worked there and I swore then I would not ever go off about rain again. Droughts are terrible. But this ain't real great either.and being honest, droughts are worse.
Rain can be frustrating, and the lack of outdoor stuff, and of course golf gets old, but this too will pass. All I ask is thing. Can we just get back to a regular pattern. Some sun, some warm, some rain
You know. The basics.

Still not complaining, just commenting. But, I do miss the long shadows that the sun can cast. Have you found yourself, as I have found myself, in disbelief that it is late June? It just hasn't felt very June-y. And thinking back, it didn't feel very May-y either. Or April-y.
But it is, and we have to think that the best of Summer 2019 is still ahead. And I have tried to keep the perspective, that is it not yet summer. It is still technically Spring.
Hang in there. Summer is coming.

Social Media has made it fun to look back on Throwback Thursdays and see how we used to be. It's maybe run its best race, but I think it is cool at times to look back and see a different version of ourselves.
The changes in me, and my career have been many, and as I look back, it seems that was not me, but it was. And in essence, still is.
Because one of the best ways to learn why things are the way they are, is to remember why they were, the way they were.

New movies out this week!
Toy Story 4
Well this is certainly NOT going to be a flop. This is going to be a gigantic hit, and seemingly everyone is excited to see this. This franchise has an incredible universal appeal. Everyone had or has toys. Everyone relates, and everyone loves the main characters.
There are some new characters here, and enough time has passed to make this fresh yet again.
Anna
If you watch this trailer, it may may become painfully clear to you, that you have seen this movie 100 times before in one way shape or form.
This will get lost in the shuffle.
Child's Play
These kind of slasher movies always seem to find a nice opening weekend, and then comes the huge exhale.
The wave will come in, and then go out.....way out....

Blog Week 9
Blog Week #9
I am very proud to say over the next few weeks I'll be telling you about all the incredible things that Habitat For Humanity of Summit County does for us all.
I have been associated with them for a number of years as the Honorary Chair for the Annual Fundraising Golf Tourney and I am proud of that. But when I was talking with Annie Boyer and others from Habitat a few weeks ago about ALL that they do, and it dawned on me that you never stop learning about all the incredible things they can do for you, and in the end for us all.
The time is right for Habitat. They, of course believe in doing well for those who need help, but they reuse, recycle, and redo and have been for years. If you take a few minutes and click on their website, you can learn of many things that may benefit others, maybe even you. They provide outstanding things I never knew before that can help you save money and lots of it. And it's free.
I am very proud to endorse and be the voice of the great people there and all the fantastic work they do.

One of the best parts of my job is when you do right. Over the weekend was the 18th annual WQMX Pet Expo. I work this event every year in conjunction with lots of amazing sponsors.
With a goal of adopting out as many animals as we can in a single day, it always feels good to give a voice to such a worthwhile day.
If you came out and were a part of this incredible event, thank you, and put it on your radar for next year. And if you adopted a new family member - Thanks again!!!

Yesterday on the show, we had a lot of fun with this. Someone calculated that on Memorial Day itself, 818 hot dogs were eaten EVERY SECOND! Got us thinking, about the big eaters in our lives. The three of us all love to eat.
So we opened up our phone and text lines to tons responses that made us laugh. One guy ate 11 dogs at a Dollar Dog Night with the Tribe. Another ate 38 pizza slices at a pizza buffet! And still another 4 big plates of shrimp at an Asian joint.
And these guys went after this pizza at Mr G's! - NICE!
I am a big eater, and yes hot dogs are on my radar. In could knock down probably about 7 in 10 minutes.
It's eating season. So let's get on the grill!

New flicks out this week! Pets, Pavarotti and Phoenix
Dark Phoenix (Preview)
Here comes more Marvel, and this time it's serious. This should do well, even though Marvel has really been front and center recently. Ran across a new study too that says, fans are NOT getting burned out on superhero genre in general.
So prepare for more from Marvel and DC.
Pets 2
You know, the original was a hit, and there were things I really liked about it. But there were also moments i thought weer borderline inappropriate as well. And I was NOT the only one I know of that felt the same.
Will be a bit hit, animation, pets, Kevin Hart. Nice trio.
Godzilla:King Of All Monsters
Godzilla still has it, and this is the continuing story of the movie from 2014. This time Godzilla is forced into battling numerous Titans, including the horrible Monster Zero that he has been battling for thousands of years. What this does well, is give you plenty of monster action, and much of it well generated.
What this does poorly is our human story that is just silly. This would have been more engaging if the "story" the reason the Titans have been released on the Earth was better. The story they came up with is easy, and lazy and unimaginative. Godzilla should be mad about that.
But this is a monster movie in every regard. Like Godzilla? Like this movie. You get plenty of him.
Ma
Octavia Spencer stars in a very disturbing movie about a middle aged woman that is out of her mind! She befriends a bunch of high school kids and gives them a place to party at her house. But she clearly has in-pure motives, and goes on a jealous killing and maiming spree.
This is very short at 1 hour 32 minutes and that's a blessing. You are ready for this to end. But this is not a bad movie. Yes, predictable, yes formulaic at times, and overly original. But Spencer is very good, and that is the saving grace.
This is very intense at times, and will be disturbing to some as there are some very graphic moments. Great:? No. It is what it is, and if you are in the mood for this type of thing, go to it!

Last Friday I played in the Junior Achievement Golf Outing at Chenowith Golf Course in Akron and it was a great time!
I know, playing golf is fun, and spending the day with workmates on the course, eating good food and the rest of it doesn't sound like tough duty, and it's not. But there is something good about supporting people that are worth supporting and Junior Achievement is one of those groups.
Everyone made us feel son welcome, and the day was so great. Feel free to support JA in the Akron area. This outing has been going on a long time, and with good reason
Good people!

Fair question. Was I ever this young?
Ran across this pic a while ago, and I think I was about 11 or so. My sister took this pic for a senior photography class in high school.
Who that is in the background is a mystery, and so is why I was posing like the Sears catalogue kid. Why was I wearing a collared shirt while playing football too? Times have changed, and son have I too I guess.
Seeing a pic like this reminds us on how long of a journey life really is. That is me, but that's a few decades and life phases ago.
Life is great!

Blog Week 8
We do tons of charity shows here at WQMX, many of them annual events, like tonight's Ones To Watch Concert, at the historic Tangier in Akron. And should be noted, this concert raised over $7200 for NEOPAT - helping veterans. Well done!
Jimmy Allen, Hardy, and Matt Stell starred on stage, bringing their newfound fame to the intimate stage and setting in front of a sold out crowd. Each have songs on the charts and each is very different from the other, making this a nice microcosm of today's country.
Allen, an easy to listen to voice and style, reminiscent of some to the strong balladiers in our format. He has a #1 already with Best Shot. When you first hear him, you get what you get, but you also get the feeling that there is more in reserve, and that you better be ready for real versatility, and that's what you get. There is also real star power here.
Hardy, has a remarkably popular song out, Rednecker, that core WQMX listeners just love. It's what I call a "list" song. It lists off the reasons why he is more redneck than you. It's a playful, fun tonge-in-cheek number of course that comes from a guy and a voice that makes it totally believeable.
Matt Stell has a hit single, Pray For You, a powerful, honest ballad that gives thanks to the new found love in his life. As I talked with him it's a song he wrote and is autobiographical. Highly relatable, and to the point. Listeners love it, and even though it's early this has the potential to be a big hit.
These charity shows are a rare chance for listeners to get close to those that are the new blood in our format. And all of our stars were amazingly engaging both on stage and back stage with those lucky enough to meet them.
Overall this was a terrific show! Seems the ones we watched, are the ones to watch.

I have lived in my house for about 18 years now, and I have these bushes here that have been there way longer than that. I have no real idea what these are, and for the most part they are nice and green.
They do bloom once a year though, and are very pretty. For about 15 minutes. Or so it seems. The bloom is very short, but nice. But would it be too much to ask for a longer bloom. And who the made the decision all those decades ago. "Hey honey, let's plant something that's a major focal point of the house that blooms about 15 minutes a year?" "OK, sounds great..."
I guess I should be thankful for the pretty bloom ans enjoy colors....for about 10 more minutes. Good thing I was home.

This week we celebrate National Hamburger Day. Might be the best holiday ever! I don't know if this is you, but it sure is me. I could eat hamburgers every day. EVERY day! Breakfast, lunch, snack, dinner, wake me up at 3am and tell me the burgers are ready, I'd come downstairs and eat one - or two.
It's perfect. Ground up steak, pressed together, grilled and bunned! The beauty of the burger is there is no real wrong way to make it. Or wrong way to eat it! Cheese? OK! And whatever you want me to throw on it, I'm good with it.
But if I had to choose a favorite way. Big burger - grilled - Swiss cheese - onion bun - tomato slice - Vidalia onion slice - Dukes Mayo.
Word is Akron is the birthplace of the burger, and I'm good with that too. If it was - great! If it was invented in Bob McGee's kitchen in Boise, Idaho - I'm good with that too. But whoever it is, he or she should be in some Hall Of Fame somewhere.
Oh wait the Inventers Hall Of Fame is also here in Akron.

The Beautiful Windy and I went to the Tribe game over the weekend. And as we were devouring hot dogs, and BBQ, we decided to go Tribe fan all the way and participate all the rest of the off field fun.
So we Tweeted to the Tribe as they ask you to and send a pic in hopes of getting on the huge scoreboard. And we did. Almost. As we #Tribefan, our pic made it up there, sans half my face, and virtually all of Windy's head.
As we howled every time it came back up on the screen, we resigned ourselves that true stardom would have to wait for another day.
Almost as much as we laughed at Windy's hashtag later #wheresmyhead

John Wick 3
This is one of the most successful franchises that came out of nowhere, and has found an audience. This is totally an acquired taste as these movies are rampant with tons of violence and long action sequences that are spectacular, but not for everyone. Our favorite, retired hit-man is back at it again.
This is rich with parody of course, and is almost a cartoon of itself, but for many, me included, these are so absurd they are highly entertaining. Seeing this, it is paramount you have seen the first two. Keanu Reeves found a diamond in the rough, and has turned out to be a huge hit
A Dogs Journey
More dogs making humans laugh, and cry. What else do you need to know.
The Sun Is Also A Star
This is the latest forbidden young love story to hit the theaters, and this has the potential to be quite good as the script looks, on the surface to be fresh.

Have you been down this road? What do you do? A couple years ago, my on-air partner Sarah Kay suggested to me that start wearing a watch. She said it would compliment me, so I took her advice and went to buy one. I started off with a simple black leather banded, wrist watch for a few bucks.
Well I have been needing new batteries for both of my watches recently and I was ticked off that replacing a watch battery can be about as expensive as a good lunch for two. So I put it off - for a few months - Until today!
I found this pawn shop of all places that not only put in a new battery, and set the time and date, they did it all for $5.99! I have never been in a pawn shop before. I didn't need a secret handshake, or code word, or anything.
Just $5.99 each and a couple of dead watches. Thanks Nic!

This is a HUGE month for BBQ, as National BBQ day was last week, and May is National BBQ Month as well. I have rediscovered grilling and BBQing this spring and I am glad of it. Seems I am on the grill a few times a week now as Windy and I both enjoy it.
I love grilling - But I do have a few grill rituals that I follow. My favorite is, no matter what you are grilling, there must be sausage on it. No matter what else goes on, sausage, keilbasa, brats or some delicious pork prioduct goes on first. I learned this incredible techniqe from my friends, Tim, Ray and Beef, as this is the practice on our Florida golf trips.
We call them "testers." You "test" the grill to make sure all is well, and of course snack on them as the main course goes on. Pluse the dog gets some too. Should be noted, Beef informed me that he and his dog Jack ate an entire packn fn brats last week by themselves! Perfect!
Its kind of a pre-meal snack. And it's outstanding.
I mean you can't just eat a huge steak without having an brat or two first!

I was so fortunate to be able to load up with the beautiful Windy, and take a short road trip this weekend to see the sold out Garth Brooks concert at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh. Been a long time since I had been to a stadium show, and it felt good.
As Americans we like things that are enormous. Whether it be our favorite burger, beer size, pickup truck, or concerts. We like things that are bigger than life sometimes, or at least bigger than they usually are. That was this show.
It was the largest ticketed event in Pittsburgh history with over 75,000 sold. Think about that, with all those Superbowl titles, and the large appetite that Pittsburghers have for anything black and gold, a country singer from Yukon, Oklahoma now holds that record.
But Garth is much more than that. His worldwide popularity is also enormous, and all of us were reminded of that this weekend. As someone who is Garth's age, and been in the format longer than he has, it still astounds me that he, after the radio run, the long semi-retirement and now the touring, his popularity is as big as ever. Maybe more. I am proud to say I have played every Garth Brooks song ever released.
Everything about this show was enormous. The stage, the sound, the performance, the gratitude he shows to the fans, and the humility to share his gigantic spotlight of success with his band mates on stage publicly. In short, our affection for Garth Brooks is enormous. The only thing not enormous is Garth's ego, and I love that about him. Always have - always will. He's authentic, and I love that too.
In short, there may never be a star as loved as Garth Brooks, I am proud is on our format. Well, well done.

Aladdin is here!
Aladdin
The list of live action Disney movies continues to grow, and this is the latest installment. This has caused a ton of buzz, and it's a sure fire hit this weekend.
Look for a very big number.
Booksmart
This is a hard R rated comedy that chronicles two high school graduates that are tired of being "good girls" and decide to sew of of oats before they head off to college.
This is extremely adult, and is mature themed in every regard, but the buzz around this is that it is pretty funny.

This is a nice week for a bunch of people that certainly deserve a week of their own. Nurses and Teachers! They are a very special bunch for more reasons than I can mention.
There are few professions that are more demanding, and more rewarding in the long run. Think about both of them. They, for the most part, spend far more time caring and tending to others than they do their own.
Nurses - You know how tough it is when someone in your own home is sick or laid up. You take care of them, because they are family, and you love them. And after a few days, your patience can wear thin. Nurses take care of countless people every single day, they don't even know. And they will do the same thing the next day, and the day after that. Many times dealing and saving people's lives that are less than decent to them.
Teachers - In a classroom with 25 or so kids, (Not theirs) teaching them, dealing with them, and spending precious time sometimes before and after school with them. And of course, dealing with their parents first in many aspects, all while their own families wait for them to come home.
We all have our things to deal with our own jobs. And yours, or mine is not being minimized here. But with all our nurses and teachers do, they have well earned our respect and our admiratoin for a job well done, and in the end, a life well lived..
Thank you!

There are a couple new flicks due out this weekend, and all of them will continue to sit in the back seat to the Avengers:Endgame that will mow everything in its pass again.
The Hustle
Rebel Wilson is back again with another comedy. She stars in this with Anne Hathaway as a couple of con women from different backgrounds, who fleece men of their wealth. These men have all wronged women.
Both of these women can be very funny, but as in most comedy's they are at the mercy of the script.
Poms
Diane Keaton and a nice cast star in a new movie about a woman that starts a cheerleading camp in a retirement community. You heard me right.
Should be interesting.
Pokemon: Detective Pikachu

I recently was given the chance to do a WQMX Ticket Stop at the Portage Lakes Career Center. What a great time, and what great people!
We gave out some WQMX t-shirts and some tickets to the Country Fest to some lucky listeners, and I made some new friends! It felt great to be around a place of learning and to feel the enthusiasm that learning a trade can instill in the young people that go there. And the staff and faculty I met were all terrific and were very eager to show me the results of their dedicated work.
We were set up in horticulture area, where they are now selling beautiful plants that YOU can buy, and they are amazing. The greenhouse is spectacular and so are the proud kids who work in it.
So stop by and buy some beautiful plants for your yard. The kids grew them, and you need them! Every day for the next couple weeks 8AM - 1 PM (Except Sundays)

Every time I watch a MLB game these days, there always seems to be a conversation about speeding the game up. I personally and not bothered by the length of the game, but many are. MLB has done some things to help move the game along, to a degree. But with replay some of this has been counterproductive. But there are things that can be done I feel that would help too.
1/ Limit the relief pitchers to 3 warm up pitches on the mound as they enter the game. (They've been throwing in the bullpen for 15 minutes) Get a feel for the mound, and let's go. (Think about it, this can happen 8-10 times in a game)
2/ Limit starting pitchers to half the warm up pitches between innings. (This happens 18 times a game)
3/ Pitchers - No stepping off the rubber once on it. You must deliver the pitch, or throw to a base.
4/ Hitters - Quit letting hitters call "time" all the time. Get in the box and let's hit.
5/ Umpires - Call the "high strike" call the zone as it is designed. The zone is to tight right now too many deep counts.
6/ Teams - Start games at 6PM (except for National TV games) Part of Baseballs problem is it seems long because it goes deep in the night. A 6PM start ends the game at about 9ish, and fans can still do more after the game.
7/ Teams - Stop the stupid 710 or 720 start. Agian the appearance of long. Things in the world start at the top of the hour.
Just a few thoughts on this ongoing subject.

Early returns say this is OK.

BLOG WEEK 5
#1
Well, The Avengers:Endgame is out, and the money is rolling in. DON'T WORRY, there will be no spoiler here during our chat.
I always feel movies of this magnitude are difficult to review. The problem is, no one wants to hear anything that glowing. If you don't love it you're judged and called "not a real fan." Fans love every frame of this movie without even seeing it. That is the challenge of the reviewer here.
I think movies for the most part should be reviewed on what they are, and who they are made for. And this is made for it's core fans, and in that respect it delivers everything they can possibly want. Yes, this is 3 plus hours, but that is not a problem. This movies along nicely, keeps you in the game. This movie brings all the other movies into play, and tries to tie it all up in tidy fashion.
One of the troubles they have here, it's tough to have all of your favorites play a vital role in this entire production, and some may be mad that some of their favs do not play the large role some of the other superheros do. Just not enough screen time. Something had to give. There also area couple of scenes here that don't make much sense, but how cares? It's superheros on screen fighting evil, with a grand payoff.
And the ardent and casual fans will love it.

Earlier this week it was Adopt A Shelter Dog Day, and the fact that day even exists makes me very happy. I am a big believer in shelter dogs, as I feel they have a special purpose. They more times than not had a rough start in some way. Being abused, dumped, forgotten, or just given up on in some way. So, they silently wait for a hero to show up who will show them there is another sunrise for them. Dogs love people. At least they want to.
When you adopt a shelter dog, you are giving them a second chance at happiness. But because of the sense you get from them, you may feel the same way. Many times an adopted dog comes to you as a result of a loss of another dog in some way. Or a need you have to care for something, or the company, or simply the love you have for dogs. You see, you and your shelter dog have more in common tha you think.
I adopted Juneau The Husky 8 years ago when she was one year old. She had been dumped, and was on the run for about a month before she would finally succumb to the elements and hunger. After she was collected and taken to a shelter, I adopted her. I was interested in a Great Dane that was there a long time, but was adopted a day or so before. So skinny and scared (Atika) or Juneau as I would rename her, went home with me.
We have filled the voids in each other, as I feel she chose me. Isn't that the charge of a shelter dog? I think so. PLEASE consider adoption they next time you are looking for a dog. It's about as nice of a thing as you may ever do.

The Avengers will dominate the box office again this weekend, but there are a couple new flicks to take in this week!
Long Shot
This has the formula to be really funny, and fun. This stars Charlize Theron and Seth Rogen in a classic "She's out of my league film." She is a high roller, and he is just a sloppy dude, and somehow they find each other set up for romance.
I think every guy has felt this at one time or another in their life. Whether its accurate or not in reality, guys can sometimes feel find themselves on a date with someone out of their league. And many times you find yourself surprised to who you are attracted to. So the formula is there for a high level of truth
I am hoping that this stay on track and doesn't sell out to a bunch of bathroom humor as Seth Rogen I feel has worn that out. He has a good idea here, and a strong co-star.
The Intruder
Dennis Quaid stars a creepy dude that sells his house to a nice young couple but can't seem to let go of the past or the house. So he terrorizes them.
I'm not sure about this one

I have been in Country Radio for 38 years and have hosted morning shows in many cities. I have heard a ton of songs over the years and lived through the ebb and flow of Country Music many times over. I do get asked a lot, "Who are your favorites in Country?" Truth is, I have a tendency to be a bigger fan of songs as opposed to artists.
Of course some artists resonate more with me than others, but songs are where I live mostly. I gravitate to songs that talk to you directly. I like songs that celebrate the lifestyle of the listener as well. And as Country fans, we have about as wide of a range of interests as anyone. Our music is the only one that sounds as good in a Mercedes as it does in an old F-150.
Here are couple of my favorites recently. (No Order)
Down At The Honkytonk - Jake Owen
Up Down - Morgan Wallen
When It Rains It Pours - Luke Combs
Hotel Key - Old Dominion
On My Way To You - Cody Johnson
Why? As a format we have stretches where we can take ourselves too seriously sometimes. There's nothing wrong with a "lovey-dovey" song, or some kind of "You're too good to be true" song. Or "If I was yours song, I'd be great to you" song. And we certainly have no shortage of those. But when we are the best, in my opinion, is when we have an great balance of that and what is listed above. Music that represents our fun, our funny side, or our more than honest side. Our music, like our fans is as versatile as any kind of music. When we celebrate our versatility, we are the best we can be.
When we are too heavy, too serious, too dark, too pop we are much like the rest of the music scene. Country peeps are true and fun, and like to be reminded of such.
What are yours?

We have been riding the weather roller coaster that last few weeks, and like you, I am ready for the good weather to get here for good. Tons of mowing yesterday, and tons of rain today, and then cool to darn near cold for a day or so.
The weather, is like anything else, sometimes you just have wait your turn. We're waiting!

What's better than being a golf course dog? Every now and again at a public golf course you see a dog that somehow came to live at the course. He, or she, can be seen running along side the mowers and among the workers on the course. You can see them having the time of their lives, and when I see it, it warms my heart. All that space, cool grass, air, and friends for that lucky dog.
There was a dog that lived on a course in Columbia Station I have played before, (Creekwood) but it was years ago. I used to see him running alongside the big fairway mowers. I am sure he slept well at night, probably in the cart barn, or the maintenance shed. I also remember a great dog at Sugarbush in Garrettsville in Portage County that roamed the clubhouse early in the morning, and then watched us all play the 18th hole from the cool grass later that morning!
I'm thinking those dogs fell on hard times, and somehow hit the jackpot when some bighearted golf course workers decided to make them their own. I recently learned of a dog named Dewey that passed away this week at Bob-O-Links in the Avon area (Lorain County) and it moved me enough to write this. He was a part of the landscape there for about 11 years. He as such a part of the course, thy posted this pic on Facebook to announce his passing. What a great life!
Sleep well Dewey.

It's that time of the year when a bunch of us from WQMX come together and support Pay It Forward For Pets, the wonderful non-profit organization run by our friend Georjette Thomas. Their annual casino night is this weekend, and I and a few of us will help emcee this wonderful event that raises money for this great organization to fulfill its charge and help hundreds of dogs find homes in Summit County.

This week is a week you may remember for a long time. Avengers:Endgame comes out, and this will more than likely rewrite every single box office record there has ever been. An at least temporarily be the biggest movie of all time.
Good idea to buy them in advance, online or go in the middle of the night. Gonna be huge

The past few weeks I have had the honor of remembering fondly the early part of my radio days. A few weeks ago, Windy and I were in Nashville on a fun weekend, and I saw a great old friend named Dave Lenahan who is working at the Ryman these days. Dave was the Progeram Director at WOBL in Oberlin, Ohio that gave memy first job in Country Radio, My first big break. My first job was a Pop/Rock station (in those days) WLRO in Lorian, Ohio.
Dave gave me a job and introduced my to a whole new world that has been, and continues to be very good to me all these years later - every day! I have worked at only Country Stations ever since. It was great to see him.
Then a week or two later, I learned of the passing of a friend of mine named Damon Sheridan. Damon gave me the second big break of my career, when he hired me to do mornings at
WRMZ in Columbus, Ohio, a new Country Station, when I was newly 22 years old.
I guess what I have been feeling, is that we all have those who we will never forget in our careers Those who made a HUGE impression, even if we are too busy to really digest it at the time, because all is happening too fast.
To Dave, and Damon. Thank you, thank you, thank you. I will continue to try to do you proud, all these decades later.

Hey, I'm Browns fan like you. And it seems this Fall, we will have to adjust our Browns viewing as we have gone "Prime Time!!" The Schedule is out!
Seems the Browns may have many as five night games, which I think may be the league limit. Plus, looks like we will open on Monday Night Football with the Jets. BTW - first EVER Monday Night game was at Municipal Stadium, Cleveland - against the Jets, with the Legend of Homer Jones (Google it)
The Browns have figured out at long last that the NFL isn't really sports as much anymore. It's entertainment. And drafting high profile characters who can play like Baker Mayfield, and trading for lightning rods like OBJ, and others get you noticed. Sure we all want to win, but the Browns also want to be noticed, relevant, popular, cool, and on national TV.
You have to get the fans excited in anticipation of winning, and then you have to actually win. Thus far, the Browns have everyone excited and ready to go, including the NFL itself.
Then you have to win! GO BROWNS!~

Quiet weekend at the movies as far as new releases are concerned. Next week, Avengers Endgame comes out, plus it's Easter weekend. But there are an couple and both directed right at the family.
Breakthrough
This is based on a true story of a young boy and his falling through a frozen lake, and the miracle needed for him to survive. This concentrates on his mother and the absolute agony she goes through during his fight for life.
This is going to be too much for some to see, as it may hit a bit too close to the bone. But it this is this years spiritutal, miracle movie, and these generally do quite well, and find a loyal audiance.
Penguins
What can I say? An hour and sixteen minutes of Penguins on film. Family time!

The ACM Awards were last night, and of course the show was incredible TV, as usual. The CMA's and the ACM's both over the past number of years revolutionized awards shows in general, by making them practically concerts over just award shows.
Both shows leaning heavily on showcasing its stars and music, as opposed to lots of other elements that have taken over other award shows. This years ACM's were no exception. But there was something even more unique from this years awards in general.
Lots of raised eyebrows over some of the award winners, and that is fine, as it spurs a healthy debate. As where there is absolutely no question artist like Luke Combs, Jason Aldean and others are dominating airplay, sales, both music and concerts, and score exceedingly high in the court of fans opinions, the night belonged to Keith Urban, Dan And Shay, and Kacey Musgraves,
You can't say anymore that these award shows are predictable, this one is one of the most wide ranging ever, and will keep the conversation going on where we are going in the long run.
Talk is always good.

I was lucky enough over the weekend to go see a sight that I am glad I did. Your kids may be taking a trip this month for school, or already did to Washington DC, and I hope they saw the Cherry Blossoms. Amazing sight.
It really was an incredible sight that everyone at some point everyone should see. Huge crowds as you might expect, and with that said I'm not sure I need to go during peak season and see them again, but this was a feast for the eyes.

Recently I have driven past this intersection a few times, and every time I do, I think the exact same thing. The junction of I-271 and State Route 303 was the home of the Coliseum. And even though the massive structure that was the Miracle In Richfield has been long gone for about 25 years, the gigantic piece of land is still empty. That alone, is a miracle.
When the Coliseum opened in the mid 1970's it was a marvel. It replaced the dark, dank Cleveland Arena that was the Cavaliers, Barons, and Crusaders home for years. The Coliseum was a showplace and was the envy of most other cities at the time. So many great times happened there, and then one day it was just - over. As the movement to build arenas and stadiums downtown reemerged. Just was the Coliseum led the charge to build them out from the city 20 years earlier. A trend that many cities followed.
I always think it's a shame there is not something there, that says it was there. There should be a marker that states this place was so great for so long, and gave so many such joy. With sports, events, and music. It was the first beacon of a new hope for an area that needed some good news at that time, and it delivered.
Long remember the Coliseum.

Just a quick note today. I've been known to enjoy a Jack Daniels or two and I'm guessing you have a had a few yourself over time. I admit, it is my drink of choice when I am in that kind of mood. And after recently visiting their one and only distillery on earth in Lynchburg, Tennessee, I learned so much. It's worth a drive there if you are in the area this summer on your vacation.
This is the spring where all the water comes from they make every bottle of Jack in the world. Who knew?

Pet Semetary is out, and is the most recent rendition of the Stephen King classic book, and this is quite good.
PS, is not ridiculously compelling, and this is not going to change cinematic history, but it is fun to see new life put back into great King classics. This stars Jasen Clark, John Lithgow, and Amy Seimetz. This is what you would think, scary at times, with a hint of cheese and camp tossed in. Visually this is quite good, and there is nice use of classic scare tactics, that are predictable, but work all at the same time. This also has a nice thread that runs through it, that makes you examine your own thoughts on death, and what comes later.
Seimetz is really great as the terrified mother of two, who is trying to make sense of the supernatural death setting she finds her and her family in. She is the star of this movie. t
If you have never seen this in any form before, this is going to be very intense at times. If you're a veteran of the book and various versions that came before, I feel you may agree, this is the best rendition yet, and by far.

Well, after a a day or two of severe weather, and the snow that at least didn't stick, it seems the nicer weather for the most part may finally be here. And for me, and for you, that means the annual firing up of the equipment, and seasons first mow. I did it today. I was not letting someone else in my hood set the pace. I did not want to have mow envy, I wanted to be envied because of my pace setting mow.
It's such a guy thing, you see your neighbor mowing, and you clear your schedule and get to it. Graduations, showers, weddings, and other major activities have been missed because of the urge to mow. And also the after party that ensues, as you sit and look at what you've done in concert with the magic of the mower.
The first mow of the year is always a good time. Yard is green, yard looks good and it's an easy chore. That gives way to flashing forward 100 days, when the grass giddiness goes away, and then it's just another chore. But as far as this week is concerned? Enjoy the mow.

With Tribe season here, we are all getting pretty geeked up about warmer weather, summer nights, and many runs down to Progressive Field. Wouldn't it be great if we made a deep post season run, and maybe even make it to the World Series?
The Tribe has played in the WS a few times, and won it twice. A couple of opening days ago, on the recommendation of my friend Don, we visited the home of the 1920 World Champion Indians, League Park in East Cleveland. And what a treat it was. If you are a big Tribe fan you should consider putting this on your list. It's still there, not in total, but much of it is. It is so worth stepping back in time, from the 1890's to the 1940's. Get your phone's camera warmed up.
It's place of Bob Feller and other Tribe immortals. It's also the place where Babe Ruth hit his 500th homer. In short, it's an Indians fan dream. All of Municipal Stadium is gone (thank goodness), but the place that was Tribe's home, two homes ago, is still there and waiting for you!

Nashville is one of the favorite getaway destinations for a whole lot you, and for me too. Easy drive, easier flight with an endless amount of fun waiting on the other end. You may love Broadway, the rooftop bars, and the incredible music. But before you do all that, maybe a tour of the Ryman Auditorium.
I have been to the historic Ryman many times, always business related, but I had never been given the proper tour, and I am glad I did. For a few bucks, you can do all kind of cool things, and see areas a regular ticket holder cannot. That includes getting a chance to get your picture taken on stage at a place many fans believe is more amazing than Carnegie Hall. Windy and I did it, and we had a blast.
We made the most of our moment, and have the pictures to prove it.
And oh yea, eat BBQ too.

Luke Combs is on pace to be something that is the rarest of the rare. A "regular guy" seemingly coming out of nowhere and rocketing to the top of the charts, and the format in general. You have heard all the numbers, #1 here, and there, for tons of weeks. It has all happened so fast, it's remarkable.
And this is just getting started. Luke Combs is making a career out of flat out great, relatable music being delivered to you from a guy giving you a voice. He reminds us of - us. He's just a guy, who has the same feelings we do on a mixed bag of emotions with his songs and it seems there is no wall between us and him.
He sings with feelings and words you want to hear, or he says them for you, in common speak if words don't come easy for you. He is the "every man." He is what many hope to be when they jump off the bus with a guitar on their backs at the Nashville bus station. It's straight forward, it's honest and it's reality. He gives the "regular guy" a voice, which is turning out to be anything but regular - but rather something beyond exceptional.

With the Indians season underway and things starting to warm up, we have much to look forward to. The 2019 All Star Game is coming to Cleveland and the area is pretty geeked up! Cleveland will host its 6th All Star Game, which is more than any other franchise!
I am a big Tribe fan, and a 20 game season ticket holder (section 172). I remember as a kid when the All Star game seemed like such a big deal, and it was. It was baseball on during the week, which was rare enough, but all those stars coming together was just magical. With today's athletes, the pay, the hype and the saturation of games on TV, it may seem less of a big deal than it was in our youth.
But when it comes to your town? It's not less at all. Having he entire baseball and social media world coming to, and watching your town is the stuff that evokes immense civic pride. I have always said that nothing can galvanize a city like a winning baseball team. It's the every day-ness of it, the pressure, the drama, and the post season.
Best part is this year the momentum will continue through July, as where the rest of the baseball world has a few days off to rest, we will just be warming up for the fun to come.
WYNN QUOTES Page
Time, is it friend, or foe? This question has no correct answer, when in fact it is both. We never seem to have enough of it. But at the same time, there are moments in our lives where it seems to drag on without any redeeming regard.
Mercifully though, the scales seem to balance in end. Life is a lengthy journey, as it is the sum of all of our journeys. In a perfect world the road ahead is far brighter than the road we leave behind. It represents optimism, and reinvention. As where the road already navigated is tattooed with the permanence of reality. The moments that worked - and didn't.
As time marches on we watch the new become the old, in our world, our friends and family, and ourselves. But I believe that no matter the circumstances, time in the end, is our friend. The only true path to reinvent ourselves is to look forward to the times future. Searching for the sunrise spawns optimism, as where insisting on a sunset can lead the exactly the opposite.
Everyone and everything is walking along with us and at the same pace as time continues its relentless trek. In the end Father Time is undefeated, where we are not. The even though the adventure does end the same for all of us, I choose to focus on the view ahead, and those I am lucky enough to have along side me for the days on the horizon that time will graciously provide.

MOVIE REVIEWS
Greta
The new Greta is a nice and tidy attempt to scare you, and for the most part this is compelling. This stars Chloe Grace Moretz, whom I really like and is a fine young actress, she stars as. This also stars Isabelle Hupport as the insanely mentally twisted, Greta. She is a very lonely upper middle aged woman who lures young women into her life, and eventually stalks, and then kidnaps them to hold them as a kind of "daughter" figure.
This has a strong hint of the Stephen King classic, Misery in it, as Greta is a demented woman bent on being horrible, and doing unspeakable things to people for her own gratification. This has some originality, but not enough. The story is predictable, and you are way ahead of it most of the time.
But our principles are strong and give good performances, even if what they are dealing with is mostly rehashed. This is suspenseful at times, and entertaining as well. Short and sweet too at an hour 38, it ends when you are ready for it to.
Fighting With My Family
Here comes one of the best surprises in a long time at the movies. This is the true story of "Paige" and her rise to fame in the WWE, opening the door for other women to get better chances in wrestling. This is certainly a story none of us has seen before, and that always scores points with me.
This is an interesting story that you need no knowledge professional wrestling to understand what is going on here. And that is the movies absolute strength. This is loaded with cameos from that world and that's fun too. This is funny, and this is entertaining. This is well cast, paced nicely and overall just fun. Vince Vaughn is great here as a real guy, reinventing his career and he is terrific!
This is simply good cold weather fun. Take your favorite wrestling fan and go see it.
The Lego Movie 2
Not to really belabor this point, this movie is mildly fun, and not nearly as original as the first one, or as a few of the spin-offs that have come from this. It is fun to hear some of the snappy pop culture humor, and tons of your favorite stars voicing a bevy of Lego characters. But this concept is limited, and we may ave seen the best shot this franchise dish out with the original.
Cold Pursuit
Here comes Liam Neeson again with a well timed mid winter action movie. This formula has done well for Neeson with the Taken franchise and others. Make action movies that are released when the box office competition is low, and the return can be high.
Problem is, over the years, they all have started to look the same with little variance. And no one is questioning the acting ability of Neeson, but how much longer are we to believe he can still mow down legions of bad guys at his age.
What Men Want
Didn't we go down this path a few years ago with Mel Gibson? Isn't this about the same flick were one can hear the inner, private thoughts of the opposite sex?
Well, yes, and I guess turn around is fair play, but there is not a great deal, if any originality here. I like Taraji P. Henson, I sometimes wish her projects were better.
The Prodigy
Mid winter horror flick. There's a reason they keep making movies where a kid is possessed and causing a whole lot of problems. They work.
They have for a long time now, and this will find a following.
