You know the larger the number that follows the actual title of a movie, generally means the worse the movie. That fits here.
Scary Movie 5 is out this week, and more of the same old thing. In this installment, SM5 decides to lampoon some more movies and weave it into their single story. Here it's the Paranormal series, Mama, Evil Dead, Black Swan and there are others too. They even go back and dig up a few has-been and aging stars to make cameo appearances here, and little of this really works. This is like hearing the same joke over and over again.
Oh, don't get me totally wrong, there are a few funny lines, and a couple of ridiculous laugh out loud moments in this movie, but not enough. Not near enough. I mean I burst out a time or two, and I'm not ashamed. But I also was repulsed a time or two, and I actually felt like booing at a few of the decisions made here.
The opening sequence with Charlie Sheen and Lindsay Lohan playing themselves was pretty funny. The effective use of parody and self deprecating humor worked. In the scene they are attempting to make a sex tape (that never get made of course) and it all goes horribly wrong as they lampoon Paranormal Activity. A chuckle or two.
A scene with Snoop Dog was very funny, as he makes fun of himself and his lifestyle as they introduce their Mama sequence. Regardless of what his music says or does, I have enjoyed Snoop much more on TV in documentaries and comedy's far more. There is something about him that makes me laugh at times.
But much of this is stupid, silly and overall just tasteless. I little bit of this goes a long way. Far more hype than actual fun. Even the lovely Ashley Tisdale can't save this as she is the overall star. Also be mindful, many of the things in the preview are not in the actual movie. So you won't be surprised.
Scary Movie 5. Let's hope this is it.
