Blog Week 11

#1

Had a fantastic time at Cedar Point this weekend.  I hadn't been there in a few years, and I had a great time.  Many changes, and new rides, Windy and I really a fun weekend as we stayed the night at the Breakers.

We rode tons of rides including a bunch of coasters.  But one thing still has not changed over the years with me and the park.   I can ride any roller coaster on the planet, but I don't like to ride the "buckets".   You know, the thing on the string.    I just can't get past the wire maybe snapping thing, and going over the towers thing.

I know, it's the most boring ride on earth, slowest too.  I know logically it's probably the safest ride in world, but I'll stick to the Valraven -

For....Some...reason...

This week, I had the chance to play in a great gold outing at the wonderful Bunker Hill Golf Course in Medina.  It was a fundraiser for a terrific agency in Medina and Lorain County called The LCADA Way.  They are here to help those who are affected by drugs and addiction.

As I learned they are great people who do amazing work. And it was good to support them and our sister radio station WNWV The Wave as they were the radio sponsor.

Kudos to the very professional staff too at Bunker Hill who ran a fantastic outing, and had the course in tip-top shape.

We here at WQMX are proud to support charity golf tournaments, so let us know if you would like us to maybe be a part of your charity outing.

The past three years I have been a 20-game season ticket holder with the Indians.   I have chosen the Monday and Wednesday package for various reasons, one being the abundance of Wednesday afternoon games.

I am not a Cubs fan at all in any way.  But for decades at Wrigley with NO LIGHTS they played only day games there.  Now with lights, the can do both.  Be clear, I am not saying we should take the lights off Progressive Field, but I do love me some day baseball.   I love the 1:10 start.  I know, you'll say because I get up at 2:30 AM to do the show is one of the reasons, and you would be right. But the day games I've gone to this year and past years are the best.

Nice weather, sun, and an overall good feeling buzzes through the park that's different than a night game.  Maybe it's a different person that can go to an afternoon game.  Could be many are thrilled to not be at the office, and maybe the sun has something to do with it too.  There's a different feel, and vibe that you can actually feel.

Love Live Day Ball!  GO TRIBE!!

New Flicks This Week!

Annabelle Comes Home

More Annabelle.  This is clearly the season for scary movies as there is no shortage of them out right now with more on the way.

Always great to get a jolt at the movies on a late summer night.  We've been down this particular road before a few times before, but we seem to want more.

Yesterday

This is on my list as one of the most anticipated movies of the summer. What a great idea in theory.  Seems no one alive knows who the Beatles are in this movie and our star sings and performs all of thier songs and gets worldwide acclaim doing it with the masses thinking they are his songs.

This has the chance to be really, really good with a solid script and done by skilled film makers.

This is getting a bit old.  I am not one to complain about much of anything, as it solves nothing, and I am a results guy.   But this rain is really getting a bit old.

I lived through a 2 and half year drought in Florida when I worked there and I swore then I would not ever go off about rain again. Droughts are terrible.  But this ain't real great either.and being honest, droughts are worse.

Rain can be frustrating, and the lack of outdoor stuff, and of course golf gets old, but this too will pass.  All I ask is thing. Can we just get back to a regular pattern.  Some sun, some warm, some rain

You know. The basics.

Still not complaining, just commenting.   But, I do miss the long shadows that the sun can cast. Have you found yourself, as I have found myself, in disbelief that it is late June?   It just hasn't felt very June-y.  And thinking back, it didn't feel very May-y either.  Or April-y.

But it is, and we have to think that the best of Summer 2019 is still ahead. And I have tried to keep the perspective, that is it not yet summer.  It is still technically Spring.

Hang in there. Summer is coming.

Social Media has made it fun to look back on Throwback Thursdays and see how we used to be.  It's maybe run its best race, but I think it is cool at times to look back and see a different version of ourselves.

The changes in me, and my career have been many, and as I look back, it seems that was not me, but it was. And in essence, still is.

Because one of the best ways to learn why things are the way they are, is to remember why they were, the way they were.

New movies out this week!

Toy Story 4

Well this is certainly NOT going to be a flop. This is going to be a gigantic hit, and seemingly everyone is excited to see this.  This franchise has an incredible universal appeal.  Everyone had or has toys.  Everyone relates, and everyone loves the main characters.

There are some new characters here, and enough time has passed to make this fresh yet again.

Anna

If you watch this trailer, it may may become painfully clear to you, that you have seen this movie 100 times before in one way shape or form.

This will get lost in the shuffle.

Child's Play

These kind of slasher movies always seem to find a nice opening weekend, and then comes the huge exhale.

The wave will come in, and then go out.....way out....

Blog Week 9

Blog Week #9

I am very proud to say over the next few weeks I'll be telling you about all the incredible things that Habitat For Humanity of Summit County does for us all.

I have been associated with them for a number of years as the Honorary Chair for the Annual Fundraising Golf Tourney and I am proud of that.  But when I was talking with Annie Boyer and others from Habitat a few weeks ago about ALL that they do, and it dawned on me that you never stop learning about all the incredible things they can do for you, and in the end for us all.

The time is right for Habitat. They, of course believe in doing well for those who need help, but they reuse, recycle, and redo and have been for years.  If you take a few minutes and click on their website, you can learn of many things that may benefit others, maybe even you.  They provide outstanding things I never knew before that can help you save money and lots of it. And it's free.

I am very proud to endorse and be the voice of the great people there and all the fantastic work they do.

One of the best parts of my job is when you do right.  Over the weekend was the 18th annual WQMX Pet Expo.  I work this event every year in conjunction with lots of amazing sponsors.

With a goal of adopting out as many animals as we can in a single day, it always feels good to give a voice to such a worthwhile day.

If you came out and were a part of this incredible event, thank you, and put it on your radar for next year.  And if you adopted a new family member   -  Thanks again!!!

Yesterday on the show, we had a lot of fun with this.  Someone calculated that on Memorial Day itself, 818 hot dogs were eaten EVERY SECOND!  Got us thinking, about the big eaters in our lives. The three of us all love to eat.

So we opened up our phone and text lines to tons responses that made us laugh.  One guy ate 11 dogs at a Dollar Dog Night with the Tribe.  Another ate 38 pizza slices at a pizza buffet!  And still another 4 big plates of shrimp at an Asian joint.

And these guys went after this pizza at Mr G's!  - NICE!

I am a big eater, and yes hot dogs are on my radar.  In could knock down probably about 7 in 10 minutes.

It's eating season.  So let's get on the grill!

New flicks out this week!   Pets, Pavarotti and Phoenix

Dark Phoenix  (Preview)

Here comes more Marvel, and this time it's serious.  This should do well, even though Marvel has really been front and center recently.  Ran across a new study too that says, fans are NOT getting burned out on superhero genre in general.

So prepare for more from Marvel and DC.

Pets 2

You know, the original was a hit, and there were things I really liked about it.  But there were also moments i thought weer borderline inappropriate as well. And I was NOT the only one I know of that felt the same.

Will be a bit hit, animation, pets, Kevin Hart.  Nice trio.

Godzilla:King Of All Monsters

Godzilla still has it, and this is the continuing story of the movie from 2014.  This time Godzilla is forced into battling numerous Titans, including the horrible Monster Zero that he has been battling for thousands of years.  What this does well, is give you plenty of monster action, and much of it well generated.

What this does poorly is our human story that is just silly. This would have been more engaging if the "story" the reason the Titans have been released on the Earth was better.  The story they came up with is easy, and lazy and unimaginative.  Godzilla should be mad about that.

But this is a monster movie in every regard.  Like Godzilla?  Like this movie.  You get plenty of him.

Ma

Octavia Spencer stars in a very disturbing movie about a middle aged woman that is out of her mind!  She befriends a bunch of high school kids and gives them a place to party at her house.  But she clearly has in-pure motives, and goes on a jealous killing and maiming spree.

This is very short at 1 hour 32 minutes and that's a blessing.  You are ready for this to end.  But this is not a bad movie.  Yes, predictable, yes formulaic at times, and overly original.  But Spencer is very good, and that is the saving grace.

This is very intense at times, and will be disturbing to some as there are some very graphic moments.  Great:? No.  It is what it is, and if you are in the mood for this type of thing, go to it!

Last Friday I played in the Junior Achievement Golf Outing at Chenowith Golf Course in Akron and it was a great time!

I know, playing golf is fun, and spending the day with workmates on the course, eating good food and the rest of it doesn't sound like tough duty, and it's not. But there is something good about supporting people that are worth supporting and Junior Achievement is one of those groups.

Everyone made us feel son welcome, and the day was so great.  Feel free to support JA in the Akron area.  This outing has been going on a long time, and with good reason

Good people!

Fair question. Was I ever this young?

Ran across this pic a while ago, and I think I was about 11 or so.  My sister took this pic for a senior photography class in high school.

Who that is in the background is a mystery, and so is why I was posing like the Sears catalogue kid.  Why was I wearing a collared shirt while playing football too?  Times have changed, and son have I too I guess.

Seeing a pic like this reminds us on how long of a journey life really is.  That is me, but that's a few decades and life phases ago.

Life is great!
