Over Her Dead Movie...uhh....Body

Well it romantic comedy season again at the movies. Flicks that are suppoesed to make us feel all warm inside when it's cold outside. Over Her Dead Body is the latest in a line that's been streaming out since December. I wish I had better news on this one.

This is Eva Longoria-Parkers' new light-hearted flick where her character Kate dies on her wedding day, and then comes back to earth to haunt another woman from hooking up with her fiance' a year after her death. I think we've all see this premise before..and it gets less funny each time. I fear Longoria-Parker has reached her career zenith. She does one thing and she does is well. On Desperate Housewives she's funny and perfectly cast. In this mess she is neither. I have always felt that she is way more side dish than main course and this movie proves just that. She's just not funny here.

This "comedy" clunks on and draggs Paul Rudd (Knocked Up) and Jason Biggs (American Pie) along for it arduous ride until it plays out to it's obvious end you see coming 15 minutes in. Buyer beware too, Longoria-Parker gets the top billing but be advised she is only in this movie for about 20 minutes in total time.

But there is good news here too. Great to see Lake Bell. She plays Ashley, the new love interest of Kate's fiance' and Kate's rival. She is physically beautiful and physically funny in this movie at the same time. For me that's a lethal combination. Her performance can't save this unromantic, unfunny romantic comedy, but she does make it hurt just a little less. It's always good to see great, new, fresh faces on the big screen and she qualifies for all the above. Every smile or laugh in this movie is because of her and I hope to see much more of her in movies to come. Lake Bell is the star of this movie period. This one is not her fault. There will be better movies for her ahead and she will be good in them.

Over Her Dead Body is typical. It will have some success at the box office and some at the video counter, but in the long run it will be very forgettable. You'll see it twice a week on TBS in about three years and you'll look back and say.."Oh yea....I thought about seeing that one....what else is on"
