We Did Our Part

I am not a person that feels victimized easily. I think that when you play the victim card it is only counter productive and ultimately prohibits you from getting you where you really want to go. So that fact that Lebron James has decided to go and play basketball someplace else isn't going to ruin my day, and I'm still glad I live in Northeast Ohio.

Don't be mad, or sad. We did our part. We went to the games, bought the jerseys, listened to the radio, and watched him on TV. In addition to all of that, we believed him when he spoke. We cheered when we won, and picked him up when we didn't. We have an owner that has a ton of money and was willing to give it to him. Plus the players around him to make the march to a championship possible. We did all we could do - period.

What happened last night was ridiculous. That dog and pony show was something like I and more than likely you have never seen. It takes a lot of stones to go on worldwide TV and give your hometown area yet another heartache for all to see, when it would have been so easy not to. If you're going to leave, fine. Just go like the others. For a guy whose been trying to convince us for 10 years he's not really that young, last night he sure looked it. And sadly, class cannot be taught or learned. Last night was proof positive of that. You have it, or you don't.

Be rest assured too, that last night had nothing to do with sports. Sports is almost dead now on the professional level, especially in the NBA. It's entertainment. Taking a lead from the World Wrestling Federation years ago, professional sports has really become acting. They entertain rather than compete. And many times it is very entertaining, like the past seven years here when you win! But there was nothing entertaining or professional about quitting in the Boston series this year. And it certainly wasn't sportsmanlike. Even if you knew nothing about the NBA, you could see the quit in the eyes. It was embarrassing.

Today it's all about millionaires "expanding their brand" so they can make millions more. Sports is the vehicle they use to be pop culture icons. Past champions like Jordan, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird and others new all that would be out there for them too. Only they new the immediate job was winning championships for the team that drafted them, paid them and believed in them. The "brand" would come, if winning came first. And all of the above, didn't grow up in the city they eventually brought glory to. But it's a new world now, and it's not better on this front.

Like I said, we did our part. Be proud of what we, the fans did. We gave a great player every chance, every support and every tool needed to win a championship for himself, and in the end us, the fans. We had the games supposed best player, playing in the best environment in the league, with hunger burning in our guts for glory. Lebron is now Robin to Dwayne Wades Batman, or Scottie Pippin to Micheal Jordan's championship run. It's a new era for us, and for him. Winning a title is hard, and only one team wins.

For some...... some tasks are just too hard.

I'm holding my head high .....we did our part.
